So you're thinking about buying a HigherDOSE mat?
Read this short guide before you buy.
You've seen your favorite wellness influencer lying on one. Maybe a friend swears by it, or you walked past it at Sephora. But at $1,295 you're not sure it's worth the money, or whether it fits the way you actually want to use it.
My name is Jan, and I'm the founder of Elvari. We make a similar mat. This is an honest take on what the HigherDOSE mat does really well, and what our mat does differently, if you're looking for an alternative.
What HigherDOSE gets right
Credit where credit is due. HigherDOSE turned a niche wellness device into a category Americans search for by name. The Pro Mat is well made, you can see one at Sephora or Nordstrom, the 120-day money-back guarantee is the most generous in the category, and their support has a good reputation.
If you're dealing with any of these, a therapy mat like the one HigherDOSE offers could be a really good solution for you:
- Trouble falling asleep or staying asleep
- Stress that follows you into the evening
- Chronic pain, a stiff back or achy joints
- Sore, tense muscles after training or a long day
- Cold hands and feet, and a body that craves deep warmth
What to look for in a good therapy mat
- The offer. Compare price, guarantee and warranty, and check what is actually in the box.
- How the therapies are made. Frequency range, number of coils and number of LEDs decide what you really get from PEMF, heat and light.
- How the mat is built. Size, weight, surface and how easily it folds away after use.
- The current under your body. Most mats run 110 volts of alternating current through the heating layer, so you lie in an alternating electric and magnetic field for an hour at a time. Check what powers the mat before you buy.

HigherDOSE wins the return window, clearly: 120 days against our 30. Most of our customers know within two weeks whether the mat is for them, but if you want months to decide, that's a real point for HigherDOSE. Everything else in this table comes down to what's in the box: we include the tester and the adapter instead of selling them.
The therapies
| HigherDOSE Pro Mat | Elvari 3-in-1 |
|---|---|
| PEMF 3–23 Hz in four fixed levels | PEMF 1–999 Hz in 0.1 Hz stepsplus 122 programs |
| 4 PEMF cores | 29 PEMF coils across the whole mat |
| No red lightsold separately as a $1,199 mat | 60 red-light LEDs (660 nm) |
| No near-infrared light | 29 near-infrared LEDs (850 nm) |
| Far-infrared heattemperature range not published | Far-infrared heat, 86–158 °F, adjustable by the degree |
| 20 lb of amethyst and obsidian | Natural crystal layer |
This is the table that made me write the article. Four fixed levels between 3 and 23 Hz is a design decision from 2016. With PEMF, the frequency is the whole point, so being able to set it isn't a luxury feature. And the light: HigherDOSE sells red light as a second mat. We put 89 LEDs into the one you are already lying on.
Build and power
| HigherDOSE Pro Mat | Elvari 3-in-1 |
|---|---|
| Heating wire type not published | Low-EMF twisted heating wire on DCdual overheat protection |
| Mat size 73 × 29 in | Mat size 74.8 × 31.5 in |
| Weighs 43 lb | Weighs 35 lb |
| Non-toxic vegan leather surface | Handmade vegan PU leather surface |
| 4 levels in 20-minute PEMF cycles | Dial, display and timer with auto shut-offremembers your last program |
Two numbers matter here. 110 volts AC versus 36 volts DC is the difference between lying on mains power and lying on battery-level current. And 43 versus 35 pounds is the difference between a mat that stays where it is and one you can still carry upstairs.
Direct current: the difference you can't see
Almost every PEMF and infrared mat runs mains power straight into the heating layer. You lie on 110 volts of alternating current, switching direction 60 times a second, for an hour at a time.
When we developed the current generation in Germany, we moved the transformer off the mat. A compact adapter stays at the wall outlet, and everything under your body runs on 36 volts of direct current. There is no alternating field and no mains hum in the heating wire. The only field on the mat is the pulse you switch on.
It is also why the controller can tune frequencies to a tenth of a hertz. A DC controller is a precision instrument, not a dimmer switch.
Where each mat wins
HigherDOSE
- 120-day return window, the longest in the category.
- Brand recognition and retail presence. You can see one in a store.
- More crystal weight, if a heavier mat is what you want.
- A large catalog around it: sauna blanket, red-light mask, covers, bath salts.
Elvari
- Direct current under your body instead of 110 V AC.
- 1–999 Hz and 122 programs instead of four levels.
- 89 LEDs for red and near-infrared light, built in.
- 29 coils instead of 4, so the pulses reach shoulders, back and legs at the same time.
- $100 less, with tester and adapter in the box.
- A 2-year warranty instead of 1.

Common questions and answers
Is the HigherDOSE Pro Mat worth $1,295?
If you want that brand and that return policy, yes. It's a good mat. If you are buying the technology rather than the brand, you get more of it here for less: manual frequencies, red and near-infrared light, and direct current.
Does the HigherDOSE PEMF mat have red light?
No. HigherDOSE sells red light as a separate product, the Full Body Red Light Mat at $1,199. The Elvari mat has 60 red (660 nm) and 29 near-infrared (850 nm) LEDs built in.
Which mat is better for sleep?
Both combine far-infrared warmth with low PEMF frequencies, and both are used exactly for this. The Elvari mat adds dedicated delta programs between 1 and 3 Hz, the Schumann program at 7.83 Hz and a timer that switches everything off. HigherDOSE offers Level 1 (Delta) and Level 2 (Theta) in 20-minute cycles.
What about EMF?
HigherDOSE runs its mat on 110 V AC and states an EMF figure for the heaters. The Elvari mat runs on 36 V direct current with the transformer at the wall, so there is no alternating mains field in the mat. Both mats emit a pulsed magnetic field when PEMF is on, because that's the therapy.
